New Work | New Shows | Slow Going

New Work. Christmas is just a few frigid days from now.  The whole country is struggling with the “Bomb Cyclone” winter weather! It is -11 F (almost -28 C!) and I am snuggled up in my wool socks, sweater and scarf listening to  the machines stitch away.  It is a comforting sound and the wind whistles through the 100 year old door jamb!  I do NOT plan to go out today, not even for physical therapy!

“Studio perceptions” are Odd things at any time of the year, but more so this year.  Between wild weather, health, politics et al, it’s often hard to get a clear picture of what is happening!

When it feels like NOTHING is happening,

That’s when everything seems to bust loose and remind me that actually, as disjointed as things have been, I have been reasonably productive between physical therapy appointments (reminder: serious hip tendon injury in the spring.)

I DO have a new solo show up at the Duluth Art Institute with the artists talk night coming up soon!  Pray that the blowing snow stops blowing by then!

Two highly pointed and political pieces, made originally for Planned Parenthood in Colorado will be on display in Hera Gallery’s online year long exhibition Objects of Agency in 2023.  This Rhode Island artist run space has been agitating and exhibiting women’s art since 1974!  Nearly 50 years. Meanwhile new work is slowly getting finished, somehow.

And there is work in Process

In the environment of healing, with its impacts on energy and time in the studio, I have returned to working with the folded pieces, finding new ways to manipulate color and form.  Stay tuned for completion!

All this is to say, “Check your preconceived notions at the door as the facts may prove otherwise!”

Happy Holidays and a wonderful new year!  Thank you, all of you, for reading and following along as I live this creative life.

Blessings on you & yours!
