Description

Closeted is a series of drawings hidden within a set of valises.  Hidden from view is the wildness of older women.

Aging American women are surrounded by images and messages that diminish us. As our skin loses its elasticity, as our breasts ‘head south’, we are shown to be less desirable, less valuable, sexless and risible. We become invisible.

What if the mask of culture is removed and replaced with a foreign mask, an abstract mask? What if the indications of class and gender are removed? What if the cloak of invisibility were lifted?

Open the valise.  Wear a new mask. If you wear a mask, you can do anything!
