Floating World

Folds and color.  Color and folds. Add in tri-lobal embroidery thread and the color shift magnifies. The thread acts almost like a prism, refracting the colors so that a single thread of blue may appear to be several shades of blue.  Add folds and curves and the color shifts are magnified even more.  Joyous and exciting and always surprising.

Flora is a three-dimensional wall work that combines maple and digital embroidery. It made me think of Geisha’s and the Floating World.

I’ll share a little secret:  This took nearly 8 months to finish…it was the piece on the worktable the day I fell and broke my leg into 3 pieces!  What a relief to complete it!
