Description

Flora

Folds and color.  Color and folds. Add in tri-lobal embroidery thread and the color shift magnifies. The thread acts almost like a prism, refracting the colors so that a single thread of blue may appear to be several shades of blue.  Add folds and curves and the color shifts are magnified even more.  Joyous and exciting and always surprising.

Flora is a three-dimensional wall work that combines walnut, wet formed leather and bit of rawhide and beads…It made me think of prairie flowers.

I’ll share a little secret:  The feathered center, the seed heart of the flower, is a feathered hairnet from the 1940’s or 1950’d that has been living in my stash for years.

Sculpture: Fabric on Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric), Wood.
