Description

Storm on the Plains

Driving through the prairies of the midwest, late fall 2021, I was struck by the flatness of the earth, the giant bird-like wind turbines and the fast moving dark clouds and rain that chased me for miles and  miles! I mostly missed the “wet,” but it was impressive.

This piece is an embroidery on Rives BFK, a lovely, soft, fawn colored printmaking paper. I designed an interlocking  cascading rock form in the computer and stitched it over and over with plain, white rayon thread. I then hand-colored from the BACK of the piece.  The paint only soaks into the thread that way, creating a color effect unavailable in any other way.
