Description

Supremacist Lace Flag 1

I love to design lace.  Not frilly dressmaking trims nor your grandmother’s doilies, although they are lovely, too.
I simply love what happens when light passes through the artwork, casting shadows on the wall, throwing shade!

This series began as an exploration of geometry in space.  Geometry is predictable and soothing. It seems secure.  I wanted to see what happened if it was hung overhead, made from gossamer materials.

What happened was  the shadows seemed to reveal the lies.  The forms were neither predictable nor secure. I imagined the flags hung one behind the next, like a parade. Instantly I was reminded of Russian supremacist art and of would be dictators telling beautiful lies.

The lies of supremacy always cast dark shadows.

Wall or suspended art: thread.
