Community Partner: Habitat for Humanity

Textile Center and Habitat for Humanity have joined forces for a Partners in Arts Participation grant through the MN State Arts Board.  Partners in Arts Participation is a pilot grant program designed to broaden opportunities for Minnesotans to participate in the arts. Grant funds may be used by Minnesota nonprofit health or human service organizations to integrate the arts into their programming or services.

This project works with participants at Habitat for Humanity to create a collaborative art installation that will be featured at Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s new building.  Susan Hensel is the lead artist for the project and has hosted several workshops for Habitat participants at Textile Center.  The finished piece will be presented at opening events in May and June.

About the collaborative piece:

Raising the Roof on Home

By Susan Hensel and clients of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity

Hope. Optimism. Generosity.

The clients of Habitat who worked on this project filled the room with their excitement about building houses and creating safe, secure homes for their families.  They were filled with pride in their work , great optimism and hope. They generously contributed their time and talents to this artwork, creating a “crazy quilt” of home.
