The work of Weavers Guild member and artist Susan Hensel will be featured in two upcoming not-to-be-missed exhibits.  This Friday in the Larsen Art Gallery in the St. Paul Student Center of the University of Minnesota marks the opening of a collaborative show with her son, John Hensel, Form: Inside and Out.

November 13 marks the unveiling of a major body of work, Wearing My Age.  Susan also considers this a collaboration of sorts.  In talking about her investigation of clothing, power, and women she said, “And it’s your words,” meaning that the words stitched on the garments are the words and experiences of her friends and colleagues. (See many of those words and phrases in this blog post.)

Susan’s Wearing My Age opening is on November 13, when she and the other three Jerome Fiber Artists will be on hand to discuss their work.

words2You have an added opportunity:  The Weavers Guild is also sponsoring a special Artist’s Talk for Weavers Guild members and guests on Saturday, December 5 at 2-4pm.  Please join us for an opportunity to celebrate Susan’s accomplishments with her Wearing My Age project.  She will discuss her artistic impulses as well as answer all of our dyeing and fiber questions in detail.  What were her technical challenges?  Ask about her experience with indigo dyeing (see photos here). How were her initial plans changed by her intense work with the materials?

Coffee and refreshments will be served.  We’ll be educated and inspired.

Mark that date:  Saturday, December 6, 2-4pm at the Concordia Gallery & H. Williams Teaching Gallery at Concordia University, St. Paul.  RSVP here
