Anyone for Entropy?| Radical Beauty in Loss | Susan Hensel Textile Art

As time passes, and things in and around us degrade and begin to fall apart,

I seek the inherent beauty in it all!

Experience Radical Beauty in Loss: The good lord knows that none of us escape our own end….whether suddenly early or slowly over years and years. I am increasingly held together by gleaming titanium and stainless steel…interior sculptures that can only be seen in x-rays or TSA full body scans. Though they be evidence of accidents, mishaps of birth and the wear and tear of age, in their own way, they are utterly beautiful!

So too is our Earth, even as we mine it, pump its oil and generally change it and harm it with our human innovation and greed.  It has always been so.  We are a species who grasps at the new and the better. And that is pretty wonderful, in the short term.  Our quality of life is often improved.  But we also, in doing this, speed up the cycles of entropy built into nature.

In the Neotectonic subseries  Atmospheric Events  I explore the beauty of decay. As a species we may be as equally draw to decay as we are to innovation! Can we recognize this and slow down our damage?

Neotectonic: Atmospheric Event 1

Neotectonic: Atmospheric Event 2

Neotectonic: Atmospheric Event 3

These Atmospheric Events cast their shadows on the walls as the lacey tendrils decompose and lose their forms. Created from carefully designed lace, made to fall apart in somewhat predictable ways, in ways at least as accurate as our current weather predictions!
