2021-03-16T10:48:13-04:00Exhibition, Articles|

How Digital Art Is Made For The Winter Exhibition It’s time for a story… I made the decision to join ODETTA Digital art on the SHIM Art Network just as the virus hit. This was around the same time most in-person art viewing was shutting down. I am still grateful and happy in doing so. If you don’t already know, the way I craft my art involves both personal planning and creativity and also computer assisting. I put together the color combinations and style of stitching. Then, I load the information into the digital framework which generates the patterns to bring things to life. […]

The Value of Art | Continuing Education | Susan Hensel Projects

2021-03-12T12:53:37-05:00Articles|

I have been thinking a lot about the value of art lately.  I intuitively know that it is not just any ordinary commodity, governed directly by costs, supply and demand.  While those things are important, they are not the whole story.  I have been having these discussions with friends in business for years…and just simply have not had the language or economic understanding to hold up my end of the discussion or get across what I mean. […]

What Is Textile Art To Susan Hensel Projects Textile art has many meanings and depends on who you speak with. To the fellow artist, it is another form of expressing yourself. In essence, it means to tell a story to help you feel an emotion. To the viewer, it could offer a sense of subtle beauty and inspiration. For Susan Hensel Projects, textile art is a form of persistence and resilience. […]

Art Collaboration with Susan Hensel | Ensemble Ouvert? | Susan Hensel Projects

2020-10-20T20:30:19-04:00Exhibition, News|

Art Collaboration with Susan Hensel in a Global Context Ensemble Ouvert…Excuse me?   The art world is global.  How’s that for a statement? And it involves Collaboration. And it is all in context. Living and working in the midwest, it is easy to lose sight of that.  Even though this may be obvious when you think about it, what I do, what all artists do,  is part of a very large, loosely organized global market of culture producers! No matter what, we all collaborate in a global context these days. But then the question is How do I connect with the larger world of art?  It’s pretty much impossible for Americans to travel right now to most countries of the world due to the pandemic.   Even if we were brave enough to get on airplanes to fly all over the world, many borders are closed to us right now. […]

Embroidery Art of Susan Hensel |THE BIRTH OF ZIG ZAG | In and Out of the Fold | Susan Hensel Projects

2020-10-20T19:47:16-04:00Embroidery Art, Exhibition|

Embroidery Art of Susan Hensel THE BIRTH OF ZIG-ZAG looking, playing, recognizing ZIG ZAG, embroidery art by Susan Hensel, premiering in In and Out of the Fold, is the result of looking and playing and then recognizing a useful composition. Check out our shop here. Much of my time as an artist is spent looking. Not seeing exactly, but actively looking at things.  It is simply how I am wired: I need to look at lots and lots of things… a lot. Finding the relationships between shapes and objects. Taking the time to see and train your eyes to see what most people can’t is what art is all about. Awakening the human mind. I enjoy finding the shape of the spaces surrounding an object. While also discerning the shapes of ordinary things and imagining how else that shape could be employed. I also like playing with shapes and objects and diverse materials. […]
