Mentoring and things | Musings Why are all these people so happy? We all just began a big new experiment: COACHING PROJECT FOR A BETTER WORLD Mentoring and things . Earlier this summer, while I was on vacation, my dear friend and coach Peggy told me about this opportunity with Art to Change the World. And then my friend Layl invited me to apply for the grant, to be a mentor. Perhaps the universe was trying to tell me something. I really do love mentoring! So, I applied. I was accepted! […]

Where Does New Work come from? Vacation?  Climate change? Vacation is a bit different for me than many people.I don’t go for the hiking and boating, although I might do both. Well, maybe not the boating. My stiff knees makes getting in and out of my preferred watercraft, canoes and kayaks, hard. […]

Persist | Textile Art | Susan Hensel Projects

2021-03-12T12:29:42-05:00Exhibition, Articles|

What Is Textile Art To Susan Hensel Projects Textile art has many meanings and depends on who you speak with. To the fellow artist, it is another form of expressing yourself. In essence, it means to tell a story to help you feel an emotion. To the viewer, it could offer a sense of subtle beauty and inspiration. For Susan Hensel Projects, textile art is a form of persistence and resilience. […]

Art Collaboration with Susan Hensel | Ensemble Ouvert? | Susan Hensel Projects

2020-10-20T20:30:19-04:00Exhibition, News|

Art Collaboration with Susan Hensel in a Global Context Ensemble Ouvert…Excuse me?   The art world is global.  How’s that for a statement? And it involves Collaboration. And it is all in context. Living and working in the midwest, it is easy to lose sight of that.  Even though this may be obvious when you think about it, what I do, what all artists do,  is part of a very large, loosely organized global market of culture producers! No matter what, we all collaborate in a global context these days. But then the question is How do I connect with the larger world of art?  It’s pretty much impossible for Americans to travel right now to most countries of the world due to the pandemic.   Even if we were brave enough to get on airplanes to fly all over the world, many borders are closed to us right now. […]

Susan Hensel Art Exhibition NOW OPEN! IN AND OUT OF THE FOLD A Susan Hensel Art Exhibition [su_box title=”IN AND OUT OF THE FOLD”]“Susan Hensel’s textile work is a dizzying journey of shifting colors and arresting, yet abstract, form. In and Out of the Fold presents biomorphic shapes and geometric patterns with sumptuous texture, representing Hensel’s long history with transformative, sculptural work.”- Jonathon M Clark, independent critic[/su_box] Susan Hensel Art Exhibition-As the art exhibition world remains sleepy during the pandemic, waking-up oh so slowly around the nation, artists and galleries are moving exhibitions and sales online.  So, too, is the textile artist Susan Hensel, introducing new, never before seen artwork to the online audience. […]

Upwelling Story Susan Hensel | a story in four parts | 3-d embroidery

2020-10-09T16:07:07-04:00Articles, Embroidery Art|

Upwelling Story Susan Hensel Upwelling Story Susan Hensel-During these times of fewer exhibitions I have been studying a lot.  One of my studies has been, and continues to be, with Transformational Creative Coach Tressa Berman.  I signed on for a six week session to investigate how I might prepare for the reopening of the art world.  It was clear to me that real-world obstacles to exhibition and sales still remained.  It was less clear to me how I might be sabotaging my progress…what kinds of beliefs and habits of thought could be inhibiting how I move forward.  I sometimes joke that parenthood brings on adult-onset-ADD. During this pandemic, it seems to be ADD on steroids! Too many ideas, too little focus. […]

Juggling As Fast As I Can | COVID-19 Time | Susan Hensel Projects

2020-07-08T17:58:35-04:00News, Articles|

IT’S COVID-19 TIME, in which weeks pass in a day and a day takes weeks. TIME TO JUGGLE AGAIN! It is admittedly hard to develop flow in the studio when I have to stop and “juggle” again! I was very pleased a few weeks ago when a long-planned for the show was approved to open in August in Tallahassee, Florida.  The state was opening up and so was 621 Gallery, with COVID-19 safety guidelines in place.  The show is 3/4 packed and scheduled for pick-up in a couple of weeks. But COVID-19 has its own sense of time.  Florida has now exploded with the virus again, the show has been delayed indefinitely again and I will take all these perfectly packed boxes back to storage, making more room to work in the studio. […]

Log Rhythm | Music, Wordplay and Numbers | Susan Hensel Projects

2020-05-28T16:19:02-04:00Articles, Embroidery Art|

Music, Wordplay, and Numbers This new piece, Log Rhythm, is actually a tribute to my father. Not only did he love to play with music and words, but he also loved to play with numbers. My father was an engineer who loved music, wordplay, and numbers.  He could play a tune on any instrument that he picked up.  Mostly he played ragtime on our upright piano and comedic songs on the concertina. (I never played ragtime. I thought I was the next  Edith Piaf, composing and singing heartbreakingly dolorous songs as a teenager.) At Christmas we would go caroling around the neighborhood with my father leading the pack, playing the concertina. […]
